It was one of the big transfer talking points of last summer when Leeds United were linked with a move for Gustavo Hamer. Sheffield United were ready to fight to keep their star man and ultimately won that battle with Leeds reportedly registering an offer of around £13m for the midfielder.
Hamer had impressed in the Premier League despite the Blades' relegation from the top flight and was seen by everyone at Leeds as the perfect addition to Daniel Farke's squad and the way the German wanted to play. Now, with the Blades not certain of being back in the Premier League next season after missing out on automatic promotion, Leeds are being tipped to revisit the Hamer deal this summer.
Should Chris Wilder's men remain a Championship club they will know there will be interest in Hamer and keeping hold of him for another year in the second tier will prove more difficult. Speaking about Leeds' potential interest, former Premier League star turned EFL pundit Lee Hendrie, believes he is a player with the X-factor the likes of Leeds are looking for.
"Obviously (Leeds) were interested, and particularly if the Blades don’t go up, I think that is going to be the key factor, isn’t it?" Hendrie told Football League World.. “He’s proven that he has got that x-factor, one of the better players in the Championship."
"You’d feel that Leeds may look at him, and feel that he could be a good addition to them. I think he could be, for sure."
