A collection box for the victims of the Myanmar earthquake has been stolen from a Cambridge food stall. The owners of Myanmar Express in Orchard Park described the incident on May 7 as 'disappointing'.

Owners Chris and Cho Cho Titmuss believe they know who ran away with the box. They said: "It's really disappointing that the charity box was stolen by someone that we were trying to help.

"As he is homeless, we have provided a lot of free food for him, and he took our kindness as an opportunity to steal. The people of Myanmar desperately need the help after the earthquake and 80 years of civil war.

"Luckily, people from the local community have really rallied around and been generous with new donations since they heard about the theft."

Thousands of people have been killed after Myanmar was hit by two earthquakes this year – a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in central Myanmar on March 28, followed by a 5.1 magnitude earthquake northwest of Mandalay on March 30.
